Modern cars are equipped with advanced systems to monitor all the electrical components including the lights.
This system is called CanBus (short for Controller Area Network Bus). It checks if all parts are working properly by measuring the amount of power they use.
When you replace standard halogen bulbs with LED lights the CanBus system might think there’s a problem.
This happens because LED bulbs use much less power than traditional bulbs, which confuses the system, leading to a CanBus error.
Essentially, your car’s computer assumes a bulb is out or malfunctioning because it doesn’t recognize the lower power consumption of LEDs.
Why Does a CanBus Error Happen?
A CanBus error occurs when your car’s electrical system detects a lower power draw from the LED bulbs and thinks that the bulb is burnt out or faulty.
LED lights are more energy-efficient than traditional bulbs and that energy difference is what triggers the error warning on your dashboard.
While this can be frustrating, the good news is that your LED lights are still working perfectly fine — it’s just the car’s system that needs a little adjustment.
